I read through John 6-8 today, and noticed that Jesus had perfect timing. Not only did He know what He should be doing, but He also knew when it was time for Him to do it. I believe this is because, being God Himself, He was never out of communion with God the Father, who created time (through Him), and knows the ins and outs of it, and has a plan taking place throughout. As chapter 8, verses 28-29 say: "...I do nothing on my own but speak just what the Father has taught me. / The one who sent me is with me; he has not left me alone, for I always do what pleases him." There are a number of examples of Jesus' understanding of proper timing in these chapters. John 6:15 shows Jesus, who will one day be king over all, exercise restraint and withdraw from those who would make Him king immediately. In chapter 7, Jesus purposely delays going to the Feast of Tabernacles until the right time, and delays teaching in the temple courts until the right time. Other people were affected by His timing as well. Twice in chapter 7 they tried to seize Him but couldn't, because it wasn't time, and in chapter 8 they tried to stone Him but couldn't. God's timing and His will are not only perfect, but unmovable. I want to be listening to God well enough that I live in His timing, making the right decisions at the right times because it is His will. I pray that when He tells me to wait, that I would not push ahead, and that when He tells me to speak or act, that I would do so boldly, and not hesitate.
