I read the book of Haggai today, and the message is the same as one of the steps of prayer that we looked at yesterday, that of surrendering our will to God, and placing His kingdom, His glory, His will ahead of our own. God's people are building their own homes, focusing on their own desires, and ignoring God's house (not that God can be contained by a building) which indicates that they consider their wishes to be more important than God's glory. God speaks through Haggai to remind them that when we place God first, and give Him the glory and honour that He deserves, there's a rich blessing that He gives. When we do not give Him that rightful priority, the blessing is absent from our lives. Personally, I'd rather be under God's blessing than under His curse, or even if there were a middle ground that avoided both, why avoid God's blessing? I'm not saying that my thoughts always match His, so it's obviously better for Him to have His way in my life than to give me everything I want. However, knowing the incredible blessing in His will gives me the confidence to trust Him firmly with my life.
