Today, Pastor Kip talked about the cost associated with following Jesus, the fact that salvation costs us nothing, it's a gift that God gives us, but to follow Jesus will cost us something. It's important to recognize that, and count the cost. The cost may be something simple that you enjoy, that isn't sinful but doesn't have the eternal value that God desires for your life, or it might be your life itself, or it might be somewhere in between. It may involve actually dying, or it may just feel like a part of you is dying when you let go of something, but the point is to give up what you will eventually lose anyway for the sake of what you can never lose. In Mark 8:35-37, Jesus says, "For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me and for the gospel will save it. / What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, yet forfeit his soul? / Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul?"
I want to follow Jesus, whatever costs come are not worth as much as the value of my soul. That means I should look at what I can let go of for His sake. (food for thought for myself, if no one else)
