I read the first 2 chapters of Luke today, and I see so much excitement about the coming of Jesus. In Luke 1:41, John the Baptist, who the angel foretold would be filled with the Holy Spirit and operate in the spirit and power that Elijah did, leaps for joy while still in his mother's womb at the approach of Jesus' mother, who in verse 47 "rejoices in God". In Luke 2:13-14, a large number of angels appeared before some shepherds, praising God at the birth of Jesus. Those same shepherds glorified and praised God in Luke 2:20. A righteous old man named Simeon praised God at the sight of the 8-day-old boy Jesus, as well as an elderly widow and prophetess named Anna.
I dare say the birth of any child is, and ought to be, an exciting event. The difference here is that the parent being congratulated is God Himself. The other difference is how long this child has been awaited, that He is in fact God in the flesh, and that what He would do when He grew up was anticipated before He was even born. I know that God has a plan for all of us, and He anticipates our living it out, and I think we can take our cue from Jesus, and give God all the fanfare, the glory and the praise, from the very first moment. I join in with all of those excited worshippers of God in Luke to say, thank God for the birth of Jesus and what it brought about as a result!
