I read through Genesis 7-9 today, from Noah entering the ark to the covenant that God made with him. Funny that I would have been talking about that covenant just a week ago, and be reading about it today. I think that people who say it was just a localized flood in that area must forget about the rainbow, and the covenant that God would not wipe out all life on earth, because there have been localized floods since. I think there's a tendency in our culture to try to explain away things that we either don't understand or haven't personally experienced. I know that sometimes I can be cynical, or critical, of those kind of things, and I think that while it's important not to just take everything at face value, it helps to understand which sources can be trusted. Either God is trustworthy, or He isn't, and if not then be careful about trusting Him, but if He is trustworthy, and in my experience He is, then as Proverbs 3:5 says, trust in Him with all your heart. At that point you test things to see whether they come from Him or not, but when you know that they do, you know you can trust it.

God, help me use the wisdom You give me to place my trust in You, the most trustworthy person I know. Teach me to recognize and listen to Your voice when You speak to me, and obey, so that I can walk in godliness, with You. Amen.
