Well, today will be another departure from looking at or analyzing what I read (Genesis 31 & 32) because I had a thought that I want to explore. I've been noticing over the last few weeks that the more I think about God, and the more I talk to others about Him, the more excited I get. I feel like I'm anticipating something amazing, but so amazing that I can't even comprehend what I'm anticipating. So I wanted to look at why I get excited about God, and write down my reasons... maybe it will help to remind me in the difficult times, maybe it will spur me on when I get lazy, maybe it will inspire someone else to get excited about God too. Any or all of these would be great.
First I want to look at reasons why people get excited, and then how they connect to God.
People often get excited by gifts, they get excited about spending time with friends and family, they get excited about being in love, they get excited about doing something they enjoy, or excelling at something they're good at. Some of these might overlap, and there might be more reasons, but these are the ones I thought of, and I'll take a look at them in turn.
God gives gifts. James 1:17 says that every good gift comes from Him. What a great reason to be excited! Who knows what gift He'll think of next? I know it's going to be good!
God is our friend, and He is our family. In John 15:13-15 Jesus calls us His friends if we do as He commands (love one another) and in Mark 3:35 He calls us His family if we do God's will.
God is in love with me, and I with Him. 1 John 4:19 says that we love because He loved us first. It's a response to His love for us that can fill us with excitement.
Spending time in God's presence is something I enjoy. Psalm 122:1 talks about going to God's house with others. That's part of the enjoyment. In fact, they are also friends, and family as well. All the more reason to be excited.
God not only gives us the skills we excel at (see Exodus 35:30-35) but He provides us opportunities to use and enjoy them. (see Psalm 33:1-3... in fact, it's worthwhile to just read the whole chapter and get lost in the depth of who God is.)
I imagine I'll have to revisit this topic later as I think of other reasons to get excited about God. I know from experience that He is worth getting excited about - He doesn't disappoint, He always comes through.
God, thank you for the excitement, amazement and awe that can fill my life as I draw closer to You. I love the way You give life to the fullest. I pray that I would always have a childlike sense of wonder where You are concerned. Amen.
