God, I ask that You would make me strong to carry out the work You have for me. As Nehemiah prayed in chapter 6, verse 9, now strengthen my hands. May I recognize Your work in my life, and accept the promptings of Your Spirit, and of the wisdom You give. Amen.
Nehemiah was a godly man. He did not give way to trickery, bribery or threats that would hinder him from completing the work God had given him. Neither should I. God's work is utmost importance, and as He is my life, His work should be what my life is all about.
Sometimes I get distracted by the bright lights and shiny objects of the world around me (figurative and literal), but I need to keep my purpose in mind, so I won't be swayed to drift about purposelessly with every passing fancy. For me, as for Paul in Philippians 1:21, to live is Christ and to die is gain. That leaves no fear of intimidation or threats, no excuse for distractions or selfishness. Living that out is what I aspire to. With God's help, I know I can.
