I'm on Christmas Christian family overload today. For the first time that I can remember, I got to just sit in on the church Christmas party, and it was filled with good people, good food, good music, and a good word from Kip about the good news of Christmas. Even though I didn't know everyone there, there were plenty of familiar faces, some old friends returned, some new faces, and a real feeling of belonging. That's one of my favourite things about church, and about Christmas. (It was a shame I couldn't be at my extended family's Christmas gathering today too... I love being around them for the same reasons.)
Of course, Pastor Kip spoke about Christmas, and how God gave us the gift we needed the most - a Saviour. When we recognize our need for a Saviour, it's no wonder it causes us great joy and peace to know that He was provided for us, and it's His work, rather than our goodness or lack of it, that determines that we can have life, and a healthy relationship with God.
Thank you God for the first and most important Christmas gift ever. As the heavenly host sang that night, may all of the glory go to You, and may we be filled with peace as a result of what You have done. I know that Your peace is a timely answer to the stress I've been feeling this week, and that lots of people feel around this time of year. May You truly be known as "God with us", not just at Christmastime but all year. Amen.
