Today, Pastor Todd Cantelon talked about how God's people are called to be on a journey with Him, not to wander aimlessly. He spoke from Exodus 40:34-38, where the tabernacle was completed and the glory of the Lord filled it, and led the Israelites on their journey. One thing that we may not have considered about church is that it's all about God, not about us. We go to have an appointment with Him, to surrender our agenda to His, and if His honour is filling His house to capacity, that doesn't leave any room for our own ego, any more than the cloud of His presence left room for Moses. If we find it easy to stand in God's presence, either something is wrong with our church, or something is wrong with us. Do we take control of our own destiny, or do we give that control into God's capable hands? Are we living a life that is safe and settled, or a life of adventurous obedience? That's a question we need to ask ourselves honestly, and if we're having trouble being honest with ourselves, we ought to ask those who know us best. It's important to be aware of our heading, because the most important decision we can make is to follow, and keep following, Christ. As we follow Him, we are set apart by His presence. He is not hiding, He is there to be seen by all His people. Our unbelieving friends will remain unbelievers until they see Him. That's why the key is not for our church to be relevant to the culture around us, but to reveal Christ to those around us. As we, and they, experience Him, we will all go from wandering aimlessly to taking a journey with Him.
